The History Of My Brother's SIII LWB Military Land Rover

Not sure about much of the history, but the previous owner bought the vehicle from a dealer immediately prior to its release from the MOD in 1989?

We picked the vehicle up on 30 June 2002.

After a very long drive towing it on a trailer behind a 1967 SWB Series 2a, it was delivered to its new home.

We have now started removing the damaged part of the wiring loom ready for repair so we can get it mobile again and ready for its MoT.

15 July 2002

Finished removing the damaged loom. It appears that offroading had damaged the main feed from the solenoid to the ammeter shunt panel.

As both ammeters are unserviceable, the decision has been made to remove the shunt panel from the system. This means that we should be able to run the cable directly from the generator panel to the starter motor solenoid.

We also found out why the clutch pedal was only firm from about half way down, the master cylinder is shot so it has been removed. A new one will be ordered along with the rear propshaft universal joints. All we should then have to do is:

  • Put the new loom section in place.[Complete]
  • Buy and fit a pair of batteries.
  • Replace the master cylinder and bleed the system..[Master cylinder has been replaced but an adapter is needed due to different threads, slave cylinder bolts sheared which is a bit of a problem]
  • Replace the universal joints and replace the propshaft.[Rear Complete & Front in progress]
  • Get some insurance
  • Start her up and drive to the MoT station
  • Pass the MoT
  • Get a tax disc
  •
